The Tax-Man Calling

Notes for the rest of this week:

I was informed last night that my job on Friday is to pack the car with overnight bags and skis, I'm assuming with the purposes of a celebratory birthday surprise, but, it could just be Liz being secretive. Hmmmm...

Also, I'm currently waist deep in the fun that is taxes, and the wonder in the best (and easiest) way to file now that we're filing together and also are homeowners.. I've received some help from the folks at work, in that one told me just to do it myself and come to him for some assistance, the other endorsing H&R Block. I've also been given the number to a recommended CPA, who seemed very nice on the phone, but still manages to charge $150 an hour... does that seem predatory to my ignorance to anyone else? And also, does anyone have any other advice for us?

Also, tonight is gym night, that is, for the sake of the climbing wall, which we've finally been making a point to returning to on a normal scale. Liz tested to belay a lead climber last week, and I'm beginning to get back into the shape that i had for a brief time this fall, and am able to ascend the meanest of climbs with only fingertips and sheer willpower.

Ok, at least half of that last sentence is true, and a betting man would wager it's not the last half.

Don't use Liberty tax software. Turbo Tax is the one I've heard the best things about. I have no idea if you need professional help for the homeowner stuff, but I'm sure I would balk at the price as well and try it on my own. Luckily I have a wife who's good with books :)

Yea, but i think we've decided to get professional help, (keep your jokes to yourself, people) considering we've got three different W2s from 3 different states, and I moved to Colorado from Wyoming in the middle of last year, and blah blah blah....

I used Turbo Tax for our taxes. Granted yours will be a little more difficult, however I think Turbo Tax will let you do your IRS plus up to three different State taxes all at the same time.
I was self employed for most of the year and was going to get professional help until I found out how much a CPA wanted to charge me, so I bought the higher end software and did them myself.

Happy quarter of a century, favored son-in-law! Your gift is on it's way, something chosen especially for you (don't share with Liz--she'll be jealous!).
Love you!

turbo tax, all the way. we did it at home, THEN we went in to H&R Block (because we were worried, AND they'll preview your stuff for free) and THEN we waltzed out of there, confident that we had done it right by ourselves in the first place, AND didn't have to pay the $100...though the H&R Block guy was nice. It was a good double-check. I would recommend that. And did I mention it's free???
