When in Gillette...
Make sure to take in the weather.
Also, make sure to get stranded in a hotel an extra night, that is also tons of fun.
Coming back in from a day of work in the field, about one hour North of Gillette, we noticed a small herd of cows making a sprint in a direction other than the way we were going. We stopped the car to take a moment to look at what they were running from. Three minutes later, the hail begun bouncing along the grass, and then the road, and eventually the windshield and hood.
At first it was just like any other fairly intense weather I've ever been through, until the first gobstoppers hit the roof. It sounded so violent, so sharp, and the storm had only just begun. As the gobstoppers turned to gumballs, and the gum to ping pong balls I moved (hastily) to the backseat of the truck.

The damage was very thorough, and it took us a half hour with our heads out the window to get back to the phone on the jobsite to call for a ride. We had one more day of work today, and were planning on getting the fixed truck tonight back to Fort Fun - but since the storm literally bent the frame of the windshield as well, we get to wait another day. So the moral of the story, kids, is to make sure to remember your umbrella when visiting Wyoming. And a spare windshield.

Oh WOW! That is sooo cool! You should send that video to the Weather Channel, I bet they'd play it on air!
Glad you two are all healthy and nobody got hurt. You're lucky you didn't get hit by a tornado with hail like that. So cool! I wish I was there.
And, this probably makes it official. Doug and Liz are crazy weather MAGNETS.
freakin' sweet! that's crazy SEEING the windshield crack!
Look at the hood-boy did it do a hammer time on that sheet metal.
Wow...I have never seen anything like that in my life. Glad you guys were INSIDE a vehicle--those poor cows!
