My fellow colorodoans...
Is it just me, or is it really, really odd to see Denver and the Rocky Mountains featured so prominently in all of the front running news stories this week? To hear people giving soundbytes from streetcorners that i can honestly say i have working knowledge of, to hear local Colorado economy and issues being brought up in conversation - it's all very weird. It came to a head last night when we watched the Daily Show that is currently filming down at DU, and they spent the first five minutes lampooning the outdoorsy, wind swept mountain image that Colorado projects.
"What do you mean we're not doing a beer ad? The entire state is a beer ad."
Also, the other, most incredibly amazing story of the week has to be the sad, bitter Hillary supporters who really can't seem to make sense of their reality - and that she won't be president. To honestly consider voting for John McCain, even though Obama and Clinton are near carbon copies of each on policy, is wholesale lunacy if you're a Clinton supporter. I suppose it will all shake out to sense in the end, but if the vote was held tomorrow, amidst the throngs of feminists emotion that are going on an hour south of us this week, I think we would be shocked (dissapointed? amazed?) at how the voting demographics for democrats would shake out.

Yeah, it is a little weird. I've found it amazing how little most people know about Colorado. Take the Souvenir DNC Teton shirts for example. Really, the wrong mountains??
But, actually, I'm curious. What do you mean by "throngs of feminists emotion"? It sounds like you're lumping all of the disappointed Clinton supporters together as "Crazy hormonal women." :(
more or less, Obama supporters are not allowed to play the race card because it's an offense to the Clinton supporters who find it more than necessary to play and continue to play the women card.
which begs me to ask the question, who cares? Obama's Black male and Clinton's White women, so?
it's weird. although they'll be talking about us a lot until nov since we're a battleground state and all.
i agree with kate that it's weird how much people DON'T know about 'rado. i mean, it's colorado people. i know you've heard of it. home of aspen?
i think the whole clinton supporters voting for mccain is an issue of media hype. someone somewhere found some people who were pissed that obama won the nomination and then spouted off and then the media made it into a story.
i'm exaggerating of course, but i don't think it's as big a problem as the media says it is.
we'll find out in nov i guess, but i can't honestly believe that democrats would vote for mcbush just because hillary didn't get nominated.
p.s. uh oh. you've pissed off kate re: politics. you're in it now dude.
Feminist throngs, yes, because that is who they are interviewing. I would have to agree with Sean, in that the vast majority of Clinton supporters will be Obama voters this Fall - but they are putting microphones in front of the irrational, gender card playing and embittered women and it annoys the hell out if me. To be fair, I probably should relaxed again before I put up a blog post.
But I totally want a Colorado Tetons t-shirt now.
Gotta love the news, they will go out and find the most irrational people, put a microphone in front of them and call it hard hitting news. And people wonder I listen to NPR more.
well, actually, NPR is at fault here too! they were doing the same thing the morning of the Hillary speech! Of course, they only did one interview, while these other news channels have been piping it in... also, the daily show totally made fun of a large group of them on Tuesday's show.
Yes, they were at fault today. One of the rare stupid moments they have and of course the DS can always find a way to rip on anybody.
I just saw the DS that probably prompted this post, and it's all making sense now. They did play up the crazy over emotional Clinton supporter joke.
I suppose the stereotype of "crazy emotional feminists" peeves me off because I consider myself a feminist, and a perfectly rational person at the same time.
And Sean totally knows what he's talking about. :) One little gaffe on the blog and it's obnoxious comments from Kate. Watch out!!!
To be fair, i call myself a feminist as well - i no no one who owns more Ani Difranco records than i do.
