Memorial Day Mists

Fully embracing the holiday spirit, Liz and i enjoyed a long weekend up in our favorite vacation spot: Vedauwoo. (Vay-dah-voo) Post a wonderful breakfast at the Chocolate Rose cafe (thanks Jo and Ian!) we made our way up North to find the entire crew out and readying for a trek around the landscape. Apparently the wind was up to a near gale and climbing was simply out of the question.
So the 9 of us saddled up and spent the afternoon on foot, heading through some marshes and circling the green mountain and the twin peaks. While the day continued to be fairly mean, we did enjoy the views and got some decent time with our packs on to prep for our upcoming Yellowstone/Glacier trip next month.Near the end of the walkabout we came across a wonderfully shaded and treed campsite - possibly the nicest i've ever seen - so we came back and swiped it for ourselves.
Sunday brought much nicer temperatures and calmer winds, so we set off for the Jurassic Park wall... but not until we had a leisurely breakfast filled with bacon. mmm. bacon. We didn't find any dinosaurs persay, but a number of offwidth and hand cracks for all to enjoy. I only made it up 3 routes myself, and the third just about killed me. (that is, i spent twenty minutes making about ten foot of progress and skinned my ankles and knuckles pretty well in the process.)
Another night of smores and lies around the
campfire led to a misty Monday morning. We figured it best to cut our time short and packed back up for the Fort. It was a nice weekend to be sure, but we could have benefited from some slightly nicer weather. You can read Sean, Kate's and Dylan's versions of the trip, and check out all of the pictures we took over at our Flickr site. I hope everyone had a great memorial weekend!

Glad to have introduced you to Chocolate Rose. Now all I have to do is introduce you to proper bacon - farmer's market English bacon is the best!!!!!
