Rawk of Ages
Very interesting story on Santa Cruz's Good Times this week, all about one of my favorite things to hate: the christian music industry. Click the pic for a link. My favorite excerpts:
"At this point, Collin Brown, a 26-year-old Christian rock musician and Coastlands worship leader, chimes in, “There’s bands out there labeling themselves as Christians ’cause it’s easier to get into the market, so I’d rather listen to a secular band who is at least honest and true with themselves than a Christian band that’s not. Just ’cause there’s a label ‘Christian’ doesn’t mean a whole lot. You’ve got to look at the words, I think—what are those saying?”
"Nigh explains Thrush’s reluctance to be identified as a “Christian” band by pointing to a general perception of Christians as people who have worked harder to voice their disapproval of the rest of the world than to convince others that God truly loves them.
“In that context, it’s just bad PR to fly the flag of a group known for hating homosexuals and abortion doctors, especially since we don’t hate either,” he states. “We would rather be a part of trying to make right what has been made wrong by too many divisive and hateful Christians.”
