"Of COURSE Jesus was white. Duh." - Saved

At a church service this weekend, i sat through a video describing the traits of Jesus, his life, his ministry, and his death. The video itself used clips from the Jesus movie circa 1970's, which i have never sat entirely through myself. But, they kept montaging to these really intense shots of Christ's face as he looked at different people and things, and i will have to say this much: they got the intensity down, to a T. But, for the life of me i couldn't take it as seriously as i think the rest of the congregation, because Jesus had these amazingly bright and glorious blue eyes.

Now, i understand it is a film. It is a movie. But, at the time of year when you see unrealistic manger scenes with wisemen of the orient in the manger on the evening of Christs birth, celebrating a holiday that itself was moved by the Roman empire to stamp out pagan rituals, i just couldn't take it. It reminded me of Rob Bell's description of this contemporary Jesus:

And you know, the Jesus that we see on television is the guy in the white glowing bathrobe, with the light blue beauty sash and long flowing locks, and he's swedish...

That description is just bunk. Sorry. And speaking of, i found an interesting article here (well, many of them popped up, just google it) that i liked mostly because they consult a prof from UC Santa Cruz - but they have a slightly off description of 'liberal' christians at the bottom. Please don't read this as an endorsement.
